The name, Motorola Solutions is familiar to almost everyone who has ever used a transceiver. A globally recognized leader in communications technology, Motorola Solutions is a standout in the modern transceiver market with innovative solutions that ensure seamless and reliable communications across a variety of industries.
At Anico, we have been working with Motorola since 2004 and can confidently say that it’s products and services are not only popular in the public sector, but also make a significant contribution to increasing efficiency in the corporate environment.
Motorola's focus is not just on manufacturing physical products but has always been on providing devices with well-functioning software. The licenses developed into their transceivers are also highly innovative and offer many benefits to users.
These licences provide advanced features such as encrypted communication, GPS-based positioning and integrated data analysis. These innovations not only increase security and reliability, but also allow users to do their work in real time, efficiently and effectively, whether it is for public service tasks or corporate communications.
However, it is not easy to navigate through Motorola's "license catalogue", with many different part numbers, short English names and confusing descriptions, and we often spend hours trying to select the most suitable licenses for our customers.
As a little teaser, we have selected the top 10 Motorola licenses and features that we think are outstanding and extremely useful!
1. Motorola MOTOTRBO analogue/digital upgrade software
An advanced software solution that allows you to upgrade your analogue radio system to digital. With this software you can take advantage of the benefits of digital technology such as improved sound quality, increased range and more reliable communications. Upgrading is a simple and cost-effective way to add modern digital capabilities to existing systems, increasing operational efficiency and communications security. 2. Motorola MOTOTRBO automatic reception volume control license
No two devices are the same, just as no two users speak at the same volume! This can be a problem especially in larger fleets where many people communicate via transceivers. Some people speak quieter, some louder. Maybe the devices are set to different microphone sensitivities. When someone whispers into the transceiver after an already distorted, loud transmission, or speaks through an audio accessory, the user has to constantly turn the volume up/down. The automatic reception volume control can help in these situations, as you don't have to turn the volume down and up for each transmission, the transceiver will adjust the volume of the reception by itself after activating the license. Thus, the receiver will almost always sound at the same volume level.
The automatic reception volume adjustment license (HKVN4497A) can be activated on the following Motorola transceivers after purchase: R2 / DP1400 / DP2x00 / DP2x00e / DP3441 / DP3441e / DP3661e / DP4x0 / DP4x0xe / DP4x01Ex / DP4x01 Ex Ma / SL1600 / SL2600 / SL40x0 / SL40x0e / DM1x00 / DM2600 / DM4x0x / DM4x0xe series.

3. Motorola MOTOTRBO SINC+ Noise Cancellation License
The Motorola MOTOTRBO SINC+ Noise Cancellation license is an advanced technology solution that drastically reduces background noise in communications. This license allows users to enjoy crystal clear audio quality even in noisy environments such as factories or construction sites. With the SINC+ Noise Cancellation license, workers can communicate more efficiently and effectively, ensuring the smooth transfer of important information and smoother workflow.
Originally, for easier signal processing, noise reduction required two microphones, one built into the transceiver, and one connected externally. This was an extra cost, as an extra external microphone had to be purchased for the transceiver. Now it is enough to buy the license key only.
The Motorola MOTOTRBO Single Input Noise Cancellation SINC+ license can be activated on the following Motorola transceivers after purchase: R2 / DP2x00 / DP2x00e / DP3441 / DP3441e / DP3661e / DP4x0 / DP4x0xe / DP4x01 Ex / DP4x01 Ex Ma / SL2600 / SL40x0 / SL40x0e / DM2600 / DM4x0x / DM4x0xe series.

4. Man Down function
The Man down feature in Motorola transmitters is a life-saving safety feature that automatically sends an alarm if the user is immobilised or in a horizontal position. This feature is particularly useful in hazardous work environments such as construction or public service areas where workers are working alone. The man down function can provide rapid assistance in the event of an accident or medical emergency, increasing safety at work and protection of workers.
The function includes a timer, which allows you to select when the function should be activated:
-
when there is movement (the transceiver is moving)
-
when there is no movement (the transceiver is not moving)
-
angle tilt (the transceiver tilts beyond a certain angle)
-
if angle tilt + no movement (transceiver tilts and does not move)
When the timer expires, the transceiver will give a warning tone to the user. If the warning is not acknowledged immediately (e.g., the PTT button is not pressed), the transceiver will trigger an emergency call and simultaneous beep and flash to ensure that rescuers can quickly locate it.
This feature is now standard on MOTOTRBO R7 models and only required for MOTOTRBO R7 Capable radios purchased prior to M2022.01 (July 2021). This feature is now standard on DP3441e, DP3661e, DP4400e, DP4401e, DP4600e, DP4601e, DP4800e, DP4801e, SL4000e, SL4010e.
5. Lone Worker function
The Lone Worker feature in Motorola transceivers is an important safety feature that helps protect workers who work alone. This feature periodically checks the user's activity and if it detects no response, it automatically sends an alert to the control panel (for example, the user must press a button at intervals.) This ensures that workers can stay in constant contact and receive rapid assistance in the event of an emergency, increasing workplace safety and worker protection.
The lone worker feature does not need to be licensed separately; it is built into almost all devices in the DP1400, Mototrbo R2, SL1600, SL2600, SL4000, DM1000, DM2600, DM4000, DP2000, DP3000, DP4000 és Mototrbo R7/R7a series.
6. Voice menu and message reading license
A "voice menu" and "message reading" license can be purchased for certain Motorola transceivers, which is a user-friendly feature as it reads out menu items and incoming messages aloud. This feature is particularly useful in situations where visual attention is limited (e.g. when the working environment is dusty or humid). The audible feedback allows users to navigate quickly and efficiently between menus, and to be instantly notified of important information without having to look at the device display. This feature increases usability and safety, making communication easier even in critical situations.
You can define a custom dictionary to accurately read out abbreviations and industry-specific terminology and choose from 27 different languages and a variety of different voices. The voice menu is editable, and a custom voice file can be uploaded to the device. The message will be read out in English.
This feature was introduced in software release 2.4. For each transceiver, a license (HKVN4281) must be purchased to use this feature.
7. Remote Monitoring license
The Remote Monitor feature in Motorola transceivers is an advanced security and monitoring tool that allows administrators to remotely activate the transceivers' microphone. With this feature, in emergency situations, such as emergencies or security incidents, central management can listen to what is happening near the transceiver without the user having to do anything. The Remote Monitor function increases responsiveness and situational awareness, ensuring fast and effective intervention.
All MOTOTRBO transceivers can respond to remote monitoring commands.
8. Indoor Location Tracking license
The Indoor Location Tracking feature is an innovative location tracking service that accurately tracks users' movements in indoor environments. This feature is particularly useful in large buildings, factories or warehouses where GPS signals are weak or unavailable. With Indoor Location Tracking, administrators can track the location of workers in real time, improving safety and efficiency. In the event of an emergency, they can provide faster assistance and optimise workflow.
This feature uses Bluetooth Low Energy (a mode of Bluetooth 4.0) in the latest MOTOTRBO transceivers to determine the location of devices within a building. The feature relies on Bluetooth beacons ("iBeacons") placed at known fixed points in the building. These small, battery-powered units broadcast their unique identifiers via Bluetooth.
The transceiver continuously monitors the iBeacons and periodically sends a measurement report (the identifiers of the beacons and their signal strength) to a dispatching application via the MOTOTRBO data channel. Based on the report, the application calculates the likely position of the device and displays it on a map, like GPS.
To use this feature, a license (HKVN4432A) must be purchased for each transceiver, and you need to install iBeacons inside the building.
9. Encryption licence
The simple encryption licence is a basic security feature that protects communications transmitted through the transceiver from unauthorised access. This encryption solution ensures that messages can only be interpreted by authorised devices, enhancing the protection of confidential information.
The Simple Encryption license is particularly useful in corporate and public sector applications where it is essential to maintain reliable and secure communications. The feature is designed to prevent casual eavesdropping but does not provide strong protection against a determined hacker. It uses a digital algorithm to encrypt voice and data, using a single 16-bit key from the 255 predefined keys available. Signalling and control messages are not encrypted.
Enhanced data protection provides a higher level of protection than basic data protection but may result in slightly lower voice quality and slightly increased system access time.
For more information on the types of encryptions, see this post: Puzzles of Encryption: Safe Utilisation of Transceivers in Our Days
10. Motorola R2 rental timer feature
The Rental Timer feature allows the Motorola R2 radio rental dealer to set the permitted rental period of your radio and automatically disable the radio beyond the duration specified on the timer. The Motorola R2 radio can be programmed with a maximum rental period of 999 hours and a maximum rental period extension of 99 hours. The timer calculates the radio usage time and disables the radio when the usage time reaches the predetermined rental period.
After the rental period expires, the Motorola R2 radio ceases to function until the dealer resets the rental timer. The Motorola R2 radio can be programmed with a maximum of 99 hours rental period extension.
